I made my first trip to New Orleans in January of 2005. I did a series of paintings from my visit to the French Quarter. Just a few months after I completed this painting Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf coast. The swirling strokes of the background took on a different meaning after the storm. More than 1,800 people lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina and subsequent floods. |
